Kvinna till Kvinna REACT Grants 2026 — Up to EUR 170,000 for Women’s Climate Action in Uganda

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation is inviting legally registered Ugandan civil society organisations to apply for partnership under the REACT programme, which promotes women’s participation in environmental peacebuilding, climate action and conflict prevention. Organisations may seek up to EUR 85,000 for advocacy or grassroots initiatives, or up to EUR 170,000 for a combined two-year intervention addressing both policy influence and gender-transformative community resilience.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be a legally registered civil society organisation in Uganda
  • Applicant must be independent from political parties and religious institutions
  • Applicant must have documented financial management systems and procedures
  • Applicant must demonstrate previous work promoting gender equality, women’s rights or women’s empowerment
  • Applicant must demonstrate expertise relevant to the selected funding lot
  • Applicant must have a presence in or experience working in conflict- and climate-change-affected areas of Uganda
  • Lot 2 applicants should operate in northern or western Uganda or work with communities affected by the EACOP corridor
  • Applicant must submit only one proposal: Lot 1, Lot 2 or a Combined Lot application
  • Applicant should have appropriate organisational governance and leadership structures
  • Applicant should have a Code of Conduct
  • Applicant should have an anti-corruption policy or documented anti-corruption measures
  • International NGOs are not eligible
  • Consultancy firms are not eligible
  • Consortium applications are not eligible

Application steps

  • Read the official Uganda REACT Proposal Guidelines and decide whether to apply under Lot 1 Advocacy, Lot 2 Grassroots Initiatives or the Combined Lots
  • Download only the application template corresponding to the selected funding lot
  • Prepare the shortened Stage 1 proposal, showing the organisation’s gender equality experience, thematic expertise, geographic presence and proposed REACT intervention
  • Complete the Uganda online organisational information form and answer the required governance, financial management, leadership, safeguarding and thematic-experience questions
  • Upload only one completed proposal file through the official Uganda REACT application portal
  • Submit before 28 August 2026 and, if shortlisted, prepare for organisational assessment in October followed by a full proposal stage in November–December
Global Grants Hub strategic note

This is a substantial but highly targeted partnership opportunity rather than a general climate grant. Applicants must already demonstrate credible work on gender equality, women’s rights or women’s empowerment and should show a real connection between gender, climate change and conflict. Organisations applying only because they work on climate or livelihoods, without a demonstrated women’s-rights or gender-transformative foundation, are unlikely to be competitive. Ugandan organisations should choose the funding lot strategically. Lot 1 suits organisations with strong advocacy, policy, Women Peace and Security, NDC or coalition-building capacity. Lot 2 is better suited to organisations implementing practical gender-transformative grassroots work, particularly in northern or western Uganda or communities affected by the EACOP corridor. Applying for both lots can raise the ceiling to EUR 170,000, but the official call states that combined applications receive no preferential treatment. The organisational assessment is important. Applicants should ensure their financial-management procedures, governance, Code of Conduct, anti-corruption measures and previous gender programming can withstand due diligence. Women-led organisations and organisations actively serving persons with disabilities or other marginalised communities have desirable characteristics under the call, but these do not replace the mandatory eligibility criteria.
