Education Cannot Wait Request for Proposals: Clean Cooking Solutions and Climate Finance in Ethiopian Schools

Education Cannot Wait (ECW)

Education Cannot Wait, through its Acceleration Facility, is seeking a qualified organisation, project developer or technical service provider to design and implement an innovative two-year pilot deploying clean cooking solutions and other climate mitigation activities in Ethiopian schools. The selected partner will establish a robust monitoring, reporting and verification system, generate high-quality carbon credits and test how climate finance can provide sustainable additional financing for education while improving school environments.

Requirements

  • The applicant must be a qualified organisation, project developer or technical service provider.
  • The applicant must have the capacity to design and implement the proposed pilot in Ethiopia.
  • The proposed approach must include deployment of clean cooking solutions and/or related climate mitigation activities in schools.
  • The applicant must be capable of establishing a robust monitoring, reporting and verification framework.
  • The programme must support the generation of high-quality carbon credits under internationally recognised standards.
  • The proposal should demonstrate how carbon finance can complement education financing and strengthen school-based climate action.
  • The proposed programme must be suitable for implementation over a two-year period.
  • The initial application must be submitted in English.
  • The submission must include a narrative proposal in PDF format.
  • The submission must include a results framework in PDF format.
  • Applicants must follow the full technical and submission requirements contained in the official ECW Request for Proposal.

  • Develop the technical approach for the two-year school-based clean cooking and climate-finance pilot in Ethiopia.
  • Explain the proposed clean cooking and climate mitigation solutions.
  • Describe the approach to monitoring, reporting and verification.
  • Explain how the programme will generate high-quality carbon credits and support future climate financing for education.
  • Complete the Narrative Proposal.
  • Complete the Results Framework.
  • Convert both documents to PDF.
  • Submit the two PDF documents electronically to rfp@un-ecw.org.
  • Submit the complete proposal by 25 September 2026 at 23:59 CET.
  • Shortlisted applicants will subsequently be asked to submit their proposed approach using additional ECW formats.
Global Grants Hub strategic note

A specialised implementation opportunity for organisations with strong technical capacity in clean cooking, climate mitigation, carbon markets, monitoring and verification, and large-scale programme delivery. This is not a conventional small NGO grant. Competitive applicants should be able to combine practical school-based clean cooking deployment with credible carbon-credit generation and climate-finance expertise. The opportunity may be particularly relevant to partnerships bringing together Ethiopian implementation capacity with specialised clean-energy or carbon-finance expertise.
