Requirements
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country, including Uganda
- Meet the applicable Chevening residency requirements
- Commit to returning to the country of award for at least two years after the scholarship ends
- Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience acquired after completing the undergraduate degree
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies the applicant for entry to a UK Master's programme
- Have completed undergraduate studies at least two years before the Chevening application deadline
- Select three different eligible UK university courses in the Chevening application
- Chosen courses must generally be UK-based, full-time, taught Master's programmes lasting between nine and twelve months and beginning in the autumn term
- Secure and submit at least one unconditional offer from an eligible course by 8 July 2027 if progressing successfully through the selection process
- Submit the Chevening application through the official online application system

- Complete all application sections, including education history, post-graduation work experience, three course choices, two referees and the four required essay responses
- Review the application carefully and submit it online before 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC
- Apply separately to your selected UK universities and, if successful through the Chevening selection process, secure at least one unconditional offer by the required July 2027 deadline
Chevening is one of the UK's most competitive international leadership scholarships. Applicants should not treat it as an academic-results-only scholarship: strong applications need convincing evidence of leadership and influence, relationship-building, thoughtful course choices and a realistic career plan showing how the applicant intends to create impact after returning home. Check the eligibility filters carefully before investing significant time. The 2,800 hours of work experience must have been acquired after completing the undergraduate degree, and applicants must choose three eligible UK Master's courses. A Chevening application is separate from university admission, so candidates must also manage their university applications and eventually secure at least one unconditional eligible offer. Important integrity warning: Chevening explicitly prohibits applicants from using AI software such as ChatGPT to generate answers to its application essay questions. Applicants should use their own experiences, judgement and original writing. AI-generated essay answers can breach Chevening's plagiarism and fraud rules.
